Queens Of The Stone Age mainman Josh Homme guests on Lady Gaga's new single Perfect Illusion.
The pop icon has revealed Homme plays guitar on the track, which is produced by Mark Ronson. Perfect Illusion will appear on Gaga's upcoming fourth album, expected for release later this year. The song can be heard below.
Lady Gaga has made no secret of her love for rock and metal, having previously been spotted wearing an Iron Maiden t-shirt and saying she had got up at 5am to buy their latest album The Book Of Souls.
Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson praised Gaga for her fashion sense and musical abilities, saying she has a "great sense of drama."
He added: "I think she's great, and I agree with her – she's not the next Madonna. She's way better than that.
"Because, first of all, she can sing — she's got a belter of a voice — and she's a really good instrumentalist. She's got a great sense of drama. And anybody that could turn up to an awards ceremony dressed as a bacon sandwich gets my vote. I mean, she's great."
Anthrax mainman Scott Ian described Gaga as a "genuine metalhead" while Kiss bassist Gene Simmons said she was a candidate to be the world's next great rock star.
Gaga has also been spotted hanging out with Judas Priest star Rob Halford.
Homme has recently been working with Iggy Pop on his album Post Pop Depression as well as touring with Pop's live band.

My main problem with this is that the song is really bad

And I can barely hear a guitar

you know what? you're not wrong

I mean I'm not against the idea of trying new things or exploring new genres or even the concept of "selling out", but you gotta give me something to hold on to

this is trash

Josh needs to call a press conference and explain to the world why this is happening.
think about the children

why.

Re this deal
Man it reminds me so much of the whole QOTSA exchanging kudos for commercialism equation
But I reckon Josh just tries it out /experiments and is not attached to outcomes
It's all good

I have no desire to listen to anything Lady Gaga related beyond a detached curiosity generally
And that's my cross to bear-I would probably love to hang with out and take drugs and fuck her
But listen to her music??
only while playing poker with Russians

I find her desperate attachment to pop icons repetitively  repeatedly annoying
Just because I repeat- Andy Warhol Factory -over and over -does not make me- "be there" -no matter how much LA brainwashing tells me that it happened because I imagined myself into the equation

Damn shame, the band could've made a comeback.

I wouldn't go as far as saying that Josh is dead to me, but I'm side eyeing him a little bit

I'm not a fan of Lady Gaga, but I think she has a few good songs, for example: Bad Romance. this song, however, is really mediocre. which is the worst: it's not even bad in a stand-out kind of way, it's just insipid. I enjoy a lot of pop music, so they have no excuse

I'm thinking that they may be friends or something. but at the same time, I find it strange that there has been no announcement or promotion from Josh's side, so who knows. Maybe there has been some final disagreement?
I only found out that Josh was involved because I saw a few pictures of Lady Gaga on Instagram with a Josh Homme hashtag, and I was like wut is going on???

why do you think these kind of cameos appear in pop songs or any song?

it is to help generate an interest or hype in a song. it is rarely done to "create interesting music". in this case it is probably intended to give gaga's new album a 'rock' credibility. musically speaking, the same/a better result could be achieved by hiring a session musician.

it gives shitty clickbait music sites, which is most if not all of them, the opportunity to fill another inch of an article about whatever new trashy artist has to resort to this age old gimmick. the article you linked was probably paid for by gaga's label to advertise gaga's brave new foray into rock n' roll.

why would homme announce or promote anything? he took the cash to appear on the track and probably didn't even record the guitar part, probably just gave permission for them to say that he did. that's what josh homme is about. increasing his wealth and playing the popstar. i'm not calling him out for it or anything, i would take the money too, fuck it.

Money is the only reason he did it.
And considering he's written songs about selling out its fucking disgusting.

But how much money does one get for playing guitar on a song with 1000 collaborators? not too much is my guess. the real money/investment here would be indirectly with the exposure he could get. and yet he's basically absent (musically and personally). he's not milking it the way he should is what I'm saying; at least take a selfie with the Gags and let her put it on Instagram or something

And then there's Gaga's side: how is putting Josh's name on the record going to help her? he's not really a prominent "Metal" figure or even known at all among her target audience. So her fans aren't going to give a care about his presence, and his fans aren't going to care at all if he's not heard in the music. Who will give her this "rock" credibility?

My final hope/guess is that maybe he has collaborated in many other songs on her album, and this is just one where he's completely in the background...

he will get more money than a regular session musician because hype and interest is worth more than end product.

to a gaga fan, josh homme is probably as metal as dio.

his 'fame' and 'credibility' belies his actual successes and achievements in music (or lack of). for some reason, a lot of people seem to know who he is.

Homme has an interesting appeal. He's almost a Dave Grohl kind of character now, minus the decades of mainstream attention.

How did this happen? I mean, if we're talking mainstream success, QOTSA really dropped off after SFTD and never really recovered until ...LC. How he kept the average fuckhead interested in his band after 12+ plus years is a fucking mystery to me.

Well, Perfect Illusion was a commercial flop, so everyone lost

Rumor has it Josh plays/(wrote?) another song on the album called: John Wayne. I have very low expectations, but who knows, maybe there's a surprise. we'll just have to wait and see

I find it funny that QOTSA fans are questioning this... The only rule is that there aren't any rules in Homme Land. Mr. Homme does what the fuck he wants and I can see him sitting at home, getting the call and just saying "fuck yeah." He loves Kevin Parker and probably saw that as a way to collaborate, which if you hadn't noticed, he likes to do a lot of (Desert Sessions, TCV, UNKLE, etc.) I guarantee you that $$$ was definitely not a factor at all, just a fun experiment to collaborate.

guess it's more of a UK thing.

it's funny because if i remember correctly, the tune to his song 'rock and roll' is played/chanted at a lot of american football games.

but then i'm not entirely convinced these things really matter. you know, i can enjoy roman polanski or woody allen movies. I guess we live in a world that picks and chooses it's heroes and villains on a whim. where people like gary glitter will never get played on the radio again while people like david bowie and jimmy page are celebrated/revered. i prefer not to pretend songs weren't released and movies weren't made.

it's like all those racist songs, movies, and art that has basically vanished. i think it's less damaging to society when these things aren't swept under the carpet, because at least we can look at these things and learn. it really bugs me this camouflaging and revisionism of unsavoury things. but then i guess i'm just going off on one now.
