music is free. i can download anything i want. it's really nice. i can also watch any movie i want.

if you want to get weird, you could look at it from the perspective that all future music already exists and always has... and when someone 'writes' a song they are just decoding some archaic schematic, plucking notes from the ether

thousands of years ago a tree fell and it sounded like beethoven's fifth.

the only people who make noise about illegal downloading are labels, middle men, hangers on, and the big artists who have too much money anyway.

a free music platform can make artists a pretty penny in the long term. in fact the 21st century has been a lot kinder to 'up and coming' artists than the previous century.

some things are more important than money. like cultural value. i don't adhere to this 50's mentality where we should all be happy to pay for the privilege of hearing an arrangement of sounds.

basically says bataclan victims had already condemned themselves to die because of their liberal politically correct ways. but not jesse... he's switched on, he knew the sound of gunfire from back home on the ranch, or something.

well I read that, and I don't think he's saying that they deserved to die. he's blaming political correctness and strict gun laws etc, not that the victims are responsible in any way. definitely some leading questions and some bad chosen wording in that interview though, he apologized afterwards

leading questions? there were no questions. there was no interview. the 'questions' are just sub headings probably 'written' by jesse himself.

interviewer: sal you are really cool guy....

sal: i wasn't going to say anything, since i'm modest, but since you asked... i AM cool. and sweet. kind to animals, too. just a real swell guy. nice.

I see a problem here. I understand if it is just a hobby, and you make "art" for your friends, it's a laugh and a party.

If you make "art" for a living, you should get paid.

It's different if people like to work for free, I work for free most of the time, but it shouldn't be expected. Would you work for free, in the field that you work in?

Anyway all musicians are prostitutes, and should get paid and respected for who they are.

read between the lines

saying that they "surrendered to their deaths" is victim shaming. the suggestion is that if they weren't liberal gun haters, they wouldn't have died. rather than blaming the shooters for the atrocity, he blames a collective liberal worldview.

your "reading between the lines" does not equal Jesse saying his fans, or anyone deserved to die. Or that he was victim shaming.

He quite honestly believes (or did in that interview) that his knowledge/familiarity with guns allowed him to instantly know what was going on - and react to it, something he thought others he witnessed didn't have the same advantage. whether that has any bearing in reality or is the stoned psychobabble of someone speaking soon after a terrorist event he was essentially starring in... well you be the judge.

for you to keep pushing your negative spin on what he said out of grief, anger and frustration in the days following that horrific event is just - shitty.

it doesn't bring back the dead, it doesn't make anyone feel better about it, and honestly its the sort of shitty muck raking of an asshole.

so, for once - shut the fuck up Sally.

it wasn't days after the event.

suggesting the victims "surrendered to their deaths" is at least victim shaming and at most something very sinister

you have to learn about rhetoric... if i was to say, in a real sarcastic tone, "oh that asskicker is a real insightful lady", it would read in print as the opposite wouldn't it? that's where you have to apply some common sense and think about context and intent.

jesse hughes has extreme right wing views. not only that, but his recollection of the events that night is muddy, and seems to have been altered in retrospect to suit his own biased narrative.

when jesse hughes says the vicims "surrendered to their deaths" because they never heard a gun before (like that makes any difference) and he survived because he's charlton heston or something, he is twisting a tragedy for his own political ends. he is reducing the blame from terrorists for shooting and laying it on a relaxed liberal european mindset for making themselves easy targets who will so readily "surrender to death".

i'm sorry if you can't see these things from your frankly embarrassingly narrow fangirl perspective.

i respect musicians as much or as little as i respect anyone else.

free music is the will of the people. if you discover a new river of clean drinking water running through your backyard would you still go out and buy evian? no.

most other industries must diversify or die when they become irrelevant. i don't see why precious 'artists' are special in that regard.

you have to remember that mp3 technology was developed by record labels in order to massively decrease overheads while still charging CD prices. they wanted to charge the consumer the same price for an inferior product and it bit them in the ass in a massive, irreversible way. it's beautiful.

there are no starving musicians. if you are a failing musician then go and get a regular job. music is a hobby that can be financially beneficial if you are good enough at it, like an athlete. as it stands tho, turning 'professional' in music is much easier today for obscure artists than it was before. back then people would only make it at the behest of the labels, now they can record their own music and find their audience themselves.

All that based on "they surrendered to their deaths" ... And a whole lot of your own rhetoric.

Gotcha. Carry on!
