We had a long conversation about Cambridge Analytica

It's taken quite a long time for that info to percolate into the mainstream

And they manipulated the Brexit vote with the data as well
Farage and Trump both used stolen data to manipulate the vote

I gloated over Facebooks share price going down I have to say
They act so above it all when they have some very fucked up policies on political discourse in conflict zones

I do find the break up of Bell Pottinger is equally suspect in terms of the info and clients that they need to bury info on
Ie Saudi,Us Military in the middle East, Election manipulation and propaganda worldwide
Such a bunch of sleazy immoral fuckers

And also Western politicians being up their own asses about their quality of "Democracy" when it's so obviously compromised in so many ways and hardly exemplary

I feel like they need Russia to be the "bad guy " to make themselves look good in comparison

*rolls eyes*

"influencing" the vote suggests they did something underhanded

when a candidate holds a rally in a certain town he is "influencing" the vote. campaigns are about "influencing" the vote

this here is just 21st century marketing

but since it was a pro-Trump thing, they're going at it

No, the issue is the illegal way the data was obtained, there are strict laws in Europe about these things and they are making them stricter ATM
And also the fake news, micro targeted niche ads designed to influence swing voters in the US and Brexit vote were propaganda with no legitimate news value, stuff about Immigration etc Fake News basically
Cambridge Analytica poached a scientist who was working in a University with FB data that was legally obtained, only for use in the University study for academic purposes
When he stole that data and took it with him to Cambridge Analytica that's when it became illegal
They deny it of course but that's what happened

And the issue is also the fact that FB and the authorities were slow and ineffective in their protection of the data once it had been stolen

'legal' data procurement is usually just as unethical in my opinion.

but on the issue of the fake news, it's just campaigning. propaganda is nothing new.

This story being in the news is inspiring me to start buying the paper on a daily basis
Lots of ex Cambridge Analytical employees spilling the beans but you have to wonder with a company that thrives on manipulation of information, how many are decoys with limited value
It's funny how every news report leaves out Robert Mercer and Steve Bannon as agents
