So my sister is getting married and we have been organising her hen

This bossy posh dykey friend of hers has totally taken over the Hen night and is turning it into "her" event

She is vegan, everything has to be vegan
Wine has to be organic from waitrose

We are having the hen on her "Vegan Farm" and we are paying her way too much IMO

She says even though we are paying her to use the barn, we can't use the house as her mother has just gone blind and it wouldn't be fair to have lots of people around her "at this difficult time"

She is the most grasping passive aggressive self involved person I have met in a long time

Icing on the cake, this person goes to Dubai to teach rich wives of Arabs and Expats "Female Empowerment" for 15k a pop

I feel like I'm in a bad episode of Absoloutely Fabulous

So apparently poor little animals being eaten is worse that human slavery and a feudal medieval style justice system which gives women no rights

Self righteous fucking vegans are a pain in the ass

I wouldn't mind but her menu for the event is beyond ridiculously bad

Pea soup, lettuce and grape salad and vegan pizza
I mean I am not a fucking student living in a house share, this is meant to be a banquet

Jesus Christ

I feel like bringing  bottles of blood and doing an "empowerment ritual" of dousing the entire party in it

Obviously I can't as I don't want to sabotage my sisters joy but it's oh so fucking tempting

I'm a vegan. I never meet any of these crazy vegans. I can only say from my experience that meat eaters are the ones usually aggressively questioning mocking and criticizing my menu. And no, I don't go around telling people I'm a vegan, the subject is just brought up when people see me ordering/eating animal free food...

Sometimes I think I really should become a vegan activist because I looove animals so much

i'm a vegetarian. but i eat eggs, and cheese. the dairy industry sucks but so does everything else. we are strapped into infrastructures of exploitation and we have to make a stand when we can. nobody can lead a perfect existence. that said, i think meat eaters are disgusting and must lack compassion.

Ahhhh I feel bad for my rant now!!

Tbh it's this woman's entitled Jolly Hocky Sticks bossiness that grates more than her vegan ness
But her menu is terrible and she won't let anyone contribute ideas, she asks for ideas and then shoots them down aggressively when people try and contribute
( my sister described her as a bit autistic)
And I dislike people who have ethics over food and not other people
I had a Jewish friend who used to go to Dubai regularly on holiday which I just could not wrap my head around , and this woman works there

She was rude to me the first time I met her and it's hard to come back from a first impression

Also we are paying her £100 a head to camp in her field and eat her crappy menu

For over 30 people we could have a great hen night in London on that budget!!!

And vegans probably think people who eat eggs and dairy are disgusting

Maybe growing up in urban environments seperated from natural processes engenders this "disgust" over the "yukiness"
Of the perfecly natural process of eating, whatever you eat

Soon we will have fake humane meat grown from stem cells

Would either of you eat that??

Also I'm curious about what vegans feed their animals
Is there vegan food for cats and dogs?

there isn't anything natural about farming on an industrial scale, unless you thought the holocaust was a natural process

I've argued with vegans about that before
I'm against industrial factory farming and US Superfarms that will likely take over the UK countryside after Brexit when we abandon EU animal welfare and consumer products standards for the far lower standards of US production

That was one of the key agendas of Brexit, to open up UK, and then other European markets to cheap GM and hormone and pesticide ridden US produce

By not supporting local regionally protected producers in the UK and Europe we will allow them to fail and allow super farms and animal welfare standards to decline IMO

And biodynamic farming which is the most ethical and enviormentaly sustainable type of farming IMO requires blood, bones and shit from animals to fertilise and renew the soil

Because in Europe we have co ops where local producers can pool their small holding produce for processing in fairly small batches we have very good quality dairy and regionally distinct produce that supports higher levels of animal welfare than exists in super farms

If that goes a whole way of life will disappear

"livestock" is having a shitty life and then being murdered no matter what regulations there are

but sure make this a brexit thread

seems you are happy to swallow the flesh of murdered sentient beings but not a democratic process

I just think that black/white good/bad thinking will create a black and white world
Reality is, and should continue to be more nuanced than that

Try telling poor people with kids that they are all murderers because they are not vegan when in general they likely don't have the education, time or money to create nutrious heathy non animal product meals every day

The farming industry in Europe can sustain more organic small dairy farms that provide biodiversity and support wildlife and ethical standards, if more people become Vegan they will die out and we will be monopolised by bigger, worse producers

And what about pets???
Do your animals eat meat???

Nahh you're right to be upset, she's imposing her diet on everyone on someone else's wedding, plus she's offering a TERRIBLE menu, she's not going to convert anyone to veganism with that crap. must be British veganism or something, she should look into Asian/ Middle-Eastern vegan food it's amazing

Ok thanks I feel better now
I mean my sister is vegetarian and I have no problem with like you say, delicious Asian and Middle Eastern Vegan food
I guess this woman is just a pain In the ass and her veganess is the most obviously militant part of her overall militant personality
It's like I agree with most socialist values, but most of the most militant socialists I come across are unbearable pompous asses and I can't be around them
Maybe people who have a moral stance and don't bang on about it all the time or impose it on others in an aggressive way are more agreeable in general

Anyway I'm not going to the hen now, I haven't got the patience to deal with this woman and I hate being trapped somewhere with people who grate
She wants everyone to take mushrooms as well as various hippy dippy female empowerment ritual bullshit And "visualisations"
No, no and no

So I spoke to my sister and now this woman is no longer vegan as she found it too hard
So now my sister is grovelling to her her to try and get her to allow cheese on the menu

Hahahaha

What a fucking joke

Ok since I just read about the crazy vegan YouTube shooter I have to say that I think a lot of vegans are actually people who suffer from Orthorexia and have an OCD like condition

I was brought up around loads of hippies who were on this spectrum who were extremely thin and would go on purification all rice for two week type diets
Some of them inflicted their obsession on their kids who seemed very undernourished and feeble
I mean I was surrounded by all kinds of crazy hippies that tried all kinds of alternative lifestyle stuff, some of which is valid, like organic farming etc
And I don't have any problem with vegans and vegetarians per se
But some of it is just really fucking annoying bullshit
I have very little patience for "enlightened" hippies after my childhood I have to say, and I especially have no patience for anyone who thinks they are morally superior or more "pure" based on their food choices, meditation or yoga regime

:/

Sorry rant over
