as long as sl keeps bringing up the fact that she won the money-less, have the teams quit, first year of fantasy football, i'll keep mentioning i took all your money last year where everyone most definitely was trying

count me in for taking your money again this year too

half.

and it was easy for you last year because you were unemployed and couldn't find any work.

YOU are also the one who bragged about winning the league where NO ONE updated their rosters but you, and where most people didn't even have a full roster. also, your mother is a whore.

you seem to know a lot about my life...more so than i do

last year i was in school, then off for the summer/in europe, then working full time

but i'll still find time to kick all your asses again this year

(and i enjoy how you think i was serious about winning that other league...whatever keeps you happy i suppose)

it took a lot of public ridicule for you to finally pretend that bragging about that league was a joke.

and i guess i don't know a lot about your life if i was wrong. which just proves that i don't actually give a fuck. so congratulations.

Not so much. I like Andy, but I don't think we can count on his participation this year.

okay, so i've gone ahead and created the league. same deal as last year:

- send me a PM with your email address and i'll send you an invite to leaguesafe.com
- pay your $20 fee at leaguesafe.com (you can pay via e-check or credit card. they charge a $0.60 fee for using a credit card. yes, howie, a whole 60 cents.)
- once i see that your fee has been paid, i will then send you an invite to the actual league

if there are any questions, let me know.

can we hash out some rules first? i'd like to see a few changes from last year and it would be nice to get some agreement between us and see what everyone likes.

also, we're currently at 8, correct? i don't know if 604qotsa doesn't know or isn't interested this year, but i imagine he'd be in again, putting as at 9. 12 seems like a longshot, so hopefully we can find one more. 8 seems like too few.

some new suggestions of the top of my head:

- cut out week 17
- either 1 week semi and 2 week finals, or cut the reg season shorter by a game and go 2 and 2
- auction instead of snake draft (it's better, practice drafts exist on espn for you to try and get used to). sure it is different than the easy boring snake, but it is better and gives everyone a fair shake at their #1 pick

i remember we had some more in the thread last year at the end of it, i'll see if i can go find it

i'm fine with trucks' suggestions for the most part, but i'm gonna vote no on the auction draft. i've got shit to do and it'll be enough work to just get back up to speed on the players, never mind sorting out some strategy for auctioning.

I second this. I'm employed with kids and an ex wife, got zero time for auction (I don't need an argument about how easy it is so save it, I know I don't want it and that's fucking that.)
I'd be fine with 10 teams.

the auction draft is so much better though. talk to people who have done them and few if any would ever switch back.

sure, it takes a bit more to figure out, but it really isn't complicated. it gives everyone a fair chance at every player and involves more strategy, less luck, which is a good thing.

snake drafts are old and outdated, no reason to keep pushing them along when there is a much better system.

might as well get used to it at one point, why not this season.

(it does not take much longer than a snake...plus we could go snake after 7-8 rounds and the top players are gone if that would make people happier).

i don't care how much awesomer it is, i don't wanna do it. i don't want to take the time, even if it's 2 hours, to learn how to do it. suck it up, suzie, you seem to have unanimous agreement on the other changes you wanted.

unanimous on the others because they should have been that way last year

nothing groundbreaking on those

why have fun with an interesting league when you can just have another boring snake draft that takes just as long and half the thought.

oh well, just trying to make the most important thing about fantasy football a little more interesting and skillful, but apparently no one really cares enough about the league to dedicate an hour or two to do a mock draft. guess thats why i won so easily last year, lack of dedication.

more easy money this year.

i would also be opposed to an auction-style draft. i've done them before and despite trucks' opinion on the matter, i don't think that they're necessarily superior to the traditional 'snake' drafts in all cases. like others, i also don't have the extra time to prepare for an auction draft. and since everyone else is opposed to it, i think that we'll stick with the snake draft.

as for the 'eliminate week 17' notion, i'm not really in favour of doing that either and here's why: there aren't as many players affected by it as you might think. and it also forces the teams in the finals to look for the best players available in the final week and put together a roster that has the best chance of performing well on that day. so the winner of the league should still end up being the owner who is able to best manage his or her team. and if we all remember back to last year and how close it was for the last playoff spot, would you really want to eliminate a week of the regular season, resulting in less time for teams to jockey for position?

if the majority want to get rid of the last week and start the playoffs a week earlier, i'll ultimately go along with it, but there's my argument for not doing it.

you have 12 weeks to prove your team belongs in the playoffs

if i can't start peyton manning in week 17 and instead rely on david garrard, my domination with peyton through the first 16 weeks is irrelevant and i lose out on all the money in the last week

insert _________ for peyton on a good team who doesn't play their starters in the last week

it's pretty much a reason not to waste a good pick on a player like him

i do agree that it doesn't affect a lot of players, but you'd be pissed if you lost because it did affect your best player, the one who got you there

if you do want to go that route, meaning players may need to be picked up off waivers as replacements in week 17, everyone else in the league should not get access to them, just the two players left. no one cares about your 7v8 game.

as for snake v. auction, it appears the people have spoken (4 of you, but i doubt the others will vote on my side anyways), but one day you will all come around

good luck making the playoffs to the person who by luck of the draw drafts 10th out of 10

i've been on both sides of this before. i've been in the championship game and lost because i wasn't able to adequately pick the best replacements for the last week. i've also experienced the opposite....starting the correct bench players and picking up players with good matchups for the week and pulling out a win in the finals.

i chalk it up to being part of the game and not something to bitch and whine about like a little girl with a skinned knee.

you can build a good team from the end of the snake. pre-season rankings never hold up completely and it's usually your 3rd and 4th round picks that turn into your biggest earners anyway.
