He left queens, drummed for Yellow #5 live, taught drums for a while, joined Evil Beaver then joined EODM after Sam left. He was my favourite queens drummer, if Josh could've had another guitarist to jam against then the Rated R line up would be my favourite.

from what ive read Gene was totally happy in queens (he even auditioned for kyuss) so i dont get the fact that they didnt hook up after the Grohl tour...

No one fired Gene, he stepped aside for Dave. They had maybe 2 days to prepare for the next tour after Dave left (something like that, anyway), and Joey happened to be around and available at the time whereas Gene wasn't. Joey also just happened to have enough skill to learn the live set on short notice, and by cosmic coincidence he in fact happened to be a wicked, creative drummer too, and one that would want to stay with the band after the tour finished.
So Gene hasn't been back, but luckily he joined EODM becuz he's awesome like dat.

I read one interview somewhere obscure once where Josh said that they began recording SFTD with Gene, but that after about a week it became clear that Gene had other priorities, and they needed to get someone else. So he called Dave, who was about 5 hours away, and asked him to get to the studio that night, and Dave did.

from what I recall after meeting him, Gene doesn't drink...or take drugs. I can't believe this is true.
