If this is true, I think it will be a very good combination... Goss will bring out the Psychedelic, druggy part of them that we havent heard in a while. I hope.

Hell yeah!

I hope he can inject some good stuff there.  The best songs from their last album were the b-sides.

I remember reading they had a bit of a falling out over the amount of studio time Goss billed Astbury so I'm glad they kissed and made up aawwwww.

Goss is the reason that Unkle had Astbury on it.
Speaking of UNKLE he went back in with them for their forth coming album as well.
Lanegan also recorded some stuff for it apparently

The Cult have just finished work on a four-track EP.

Few details are yet available, but it was produced by Chris Goss of Masters Of Reality fame who told Classic Rock: "It sounds incredible."

This is to be the first of what are said to be three or four 'capsules' that the band intend to release in 2010.

Ed:

"I teamed up with Chris Goss again to record with The Cult. Itís been an absolute pleasure. We started off at Sound City, Studio A to record drum and bass. Iíve been wanting to work in this room for a long time and going to tape completed the dream. I love the smell of tape that blows up in your face when you throw a reel up and hit rewind. John Tempesta (drums) and Chris Wyse (bass) held it down. We shifted gears and moved to Sage & Sound, Studio B, to overdub.  The API console was immaculate, actually all the gear was immaculate and consisted of most of my favorite pieces.  After a short break for the holidays we picked it back up at The Hacienda to complete tracking and prep for mixing. Everybody seemed really comfortable here and we captured some amazing performances! Iím really proud of whatís coming out of the speakers and canít wait to share it."

'Capsule' EP, on various formats, to follow in the autumn.

The pricing is pretty ridiculous.  $13 for 4 MP3s (two are live) + video?  $19 for the same in FLAC (and higher resolution video)?

I'll go along with it grudgingly but I'm a bit miffed.

Edit: According to one of their facebook posts, the reason for the price is because the product is limited.  The vinyl and CD/DVD, ok I can see that...but the MP3s and FLACs?

It reminds me of an article I read on the Beggar's Banquet blog site from a year or so back.  They were crowing about how it was cool that the out of print copies of the Cult box sets were going for hundreds of dollars on Ebay over their original prices and because of that "rarity" and "value" they wouldn't re-release or even make digital copies available for sale.

Talk about encouraging piracy.

Long-time Cult collaborator and producer Bob Rock put the finishing touches on the sonic foundations laid by co-producer Chris Goss

A little more detail in the Billboard story here.

Album drops May/June with some special editions including a 2 disc set with all the 'Capsule' songs.

The group first worked with producer Chris Goss (Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss, U.N.K.L.E.), starting off in what Astbury describes as "a raw, visceral space" before all concerned "kind of exhausted ourselves." The Cult then went to Bob Rock, who produced 1989's platinum "Sonic Temple," for "a fresh set of ears" and a "more refined" and polished sound.

so Goss made it awesome then Bob Rock came in and made it worse?
