well it is the capital so it's not as if it was ever going to be anyone other than there is it!
Could have easily been elsewhere, more central in the midlands would make more sense tbh.
The commonwealth games took place in Manchester 8 years ago, it's not like London is the only place in the country with facilitys you know.

it could have been anywhere but it's always been obvious the nations capital would be the chosen place, can't understand anyone assuming otherwise.
if you're going to get all geographical about it then you have to take into account jersey and guernsey in your equations.
but if you want to discuss facilities lets do that, London is the only place witht he facilities to put on a huge free gig at short notice as it already has several sites already set up with large stages on large open public ground already set up with licencing rights and all ready to cater with huge events and those were hyde park, victoria park and finsbury park, all three of these sites will have already had stage set ups and be ready to host such a gig as they have other events on throughout the summer, come july and august clapham common also has these facilities in place.
other places would require the hiring and setting up of all these facilities at extra cost and planning and permission from local councils which in itself will take longer than the few months the organizers had to arrange this gig for free.

Fair enough, hopefully they might do some tour dates as well, I'd be more than happy to pay to see them.

if it ended up a fair distance from me i would just make a weekend of it.
it's also occoured to me that the promoters behind this festival republic may be arranging gigs for the friday and saturday in order to offset and pay for this free gig which would explain why this is on a sunday.
perhaps someone who is headlining either the isle of wight or download festivals the following weekend someone like Jay Z or AC/DC or maybe Greeday who are playing wembley around this time.
