London, as Damon Albarn once wrote, loves the way you just don't stand a chance. Blur drummer Dave Rowntree would like very much to prove that adage wrong, as according to NME, he'll run as a Labour Party candidate for the local council election in his Marylebone, Westminster, London district.
Located in central London, Marylebone is long considered a conservative Tory party stronghold, which may prove an added challenge to the liberal-leaning Rowntree. Not only that, but according to Wikipedia's list of Marylebone's famous residents, Noel Gallagher resides in the area, so that's at least one sure vote in the other direction.
As Rowntree said in a recent interview,"I think there are a lot of people quite angry with how the Tories are running Westminster, and I think somebody needs to take a stand, somebody needs to act as a rallying point for the disaffected people, and input their point of view." Sounds noble enough, innit?

He'll not get in, not on a Labour ticket in Westminster Borough, for the same reason we don't vote Labour here in Wandsworth. Its the council tax - the Tories keep it cheap so we vote for them (Wandsworth is cheapest in the country, I think Westminster is about third cheapest). Yet everything works here...the schools are open, the roads are swept, refuse cleared away (daily!), roadworks are done.
Why the fuck would the people of Westminster Borough vote for some millionaire champagne socialist who'll triple their council tax and spend it on ideologically motivated shit - but (like Labour Boroughs such as Southwark, Lambeth or Hackney) won't even provide good services?
Hope the twat loses his deposit, frankly. If he wants to be a good Rich Little Comrade he can fuck off to Islington with the rest of the ponces.

He must have heard you...
He could start up a parliament band...I don't know enough about English politics to make funny suggestions as to who would play what...but Michael Portillo could play trombone
Is Michael Portillo a politician? I don't know
He has funny lips
