So, This is/was just about the best thread ever on the old board, time to start over... Much discussion over the QOTSA rigs and setups and even more discussion over personal setups... ask questiosns, get answers or opinions and always post pics!!!

Has anyone heard/seen much more about the Yamaha Troy signature? I read the review in Guitarist a month or so ago, which was extremley shoddy; the journalist just copied adjectives that Troy used when he was asked about the guitar and made them into new sentances.
Apart from this, I havent seen it on any of the musical instrument sales websites or in shops or whatever, despite the fact that the guitar has existed for quite a long time now.

We already atarted it here:

Otherwise, a review and some rants on the TVL is on the archives.

I noticed that guitar chat had started under another new thread after I started this thread, but at least this way people have a thread name they recognize...

as for the TVL stuff... try this for a review - TVL REVIEW

and this to buy it - TVL Purchase

Troy's guitar review

QUOTE
Aaron North Review of Yamaha's SA503TVL

Why did you choose the SA503TVL?
Cos Troy Van Leeuwen is the sexiest man in rock n' roll, and I wanna blow him and be him. If I can't be him, at least I can get as close as possible by playing his guitar! Well, I can't really play very well, but this thing looks so fucking cool when it's strapped on, nobody really notices that anyway. Looking cool is what rock n' roll is really all about.

How long have you used the SA503TVL?
A few weeks now. I practice on it EVERY DAY! Pretty soon I'll be able to play the "Smoke On The Water" riff, and strum up AND down.

What do you like about the construction of the guitar? How is the quality?
Looks good to me! It's a lot like most of the men in my life. Big and black!

What features do you like the most?
I dunno. Like I said, I don't know much about the "technical" side of these things. I couldn't tell ya much about how it "plays", but I wear it pretty good.

When/where do you use it?
On tour across the world duder! I've been playing it a lot on that "fuck you like an animal" song.

Who would be the best customer, e.g. a beginner, immediate user, advanced user, or any one? Why?
Hmmm. I dunno. Everybody! I was lucky enough to be asked by the Queens of the Stone Age blokes to play guitar with them on a few shows, and when I had to play all those crazy songs where ya gotta be tuned down to Z, and use telephone cable gauge strings, I was super bummed I didn't have a guitar like this with a big, full sound... so I guess people who are into that?

Do you have any tips on how to best use the guitar?
Just make sure the strap is real low. Nobody likes a dorkus malorkus who wears the fuckin' thing like a violin.

How's the shape of the neck?

Long... hard... feels good in my hand!

Do you like the sound of the pickups on the SA503TVL?
Sure thing duder! P-90's bitch! I used to think that was a fighter airplane model or something, but now i know thanks to Troy what it's all about!

Do you like the appearance / finish of the SA503TVL?
Dude, if it wasn't cool looking, Troy wouldn't be playing em. We're talking about a guy who can make even the hippest Hollywood types look like dog food after he walks into a room.

Does it have a good dirty sound?
Dirty sound?! Queens of the Stone Age Bitch! NIN bitch!

Does it have a good clean sound?
Rock n' roll isn't supposed to be clean.

Does the SA503TVL stay in tune well?
I don't know how to tune a guitar. That's what techs are for dude!

Does it have a good overall weight and balance?
Shit yeah. I can do all my ninja jumpkicks and not throw out my hip with this guy strapped on.

If you were a dealer trying to sell the SA503TVL, what would you tell a potential buyer?

Queens of the Stone Age Bitch! NIN bitch!

just some uselessness to add to the thread, on early songs, josh used to play songs from the 1st album half a tune lower...because his voice couldnt reach the high spots right he did in studio....

i was jammin along a live version of How to handle a rope, played it normal and it sounded facked...
