Anyone got any opinions on what their best albums are?
Also if anyone could name some similar artists that'd be useful.

Can't say I have very thorough knowledge of either but I hear good things about GY!BE's Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven and I own Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works, which is cool when you're in the right mood (but not necessarily what you're looking for). I think Druqks (Drukqs?) is supposed to be good too.
They're not really in the same genre though. In the post-rock (the genre GY!BE is usually considered a part of) department I must recommend Mogwai. Rock Action is my favorite album of theirs.

I haven't gotten into Godspeed You! Black Emperor yet. I've been listened to Aphex for years though, or used to. His music is pretty across the board depending on what release you get your hands on.
The mentioned Selected Ambient Works is probably the easier to find 2CD volume 2, but the original volume 1 collection is better IMO though a bit dated. I Care Because You Do, The Richard D. James Album and Windowlicker are all excellent. Then maybe checkout the many Analogue Bubblebath releases under his AFX pseudo.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1P3Wc-37pC4 <--- Chris Cunningham is awesome.
Anyways, for artists similar to Aphex Twin I can't really recommend any. But I can say that there was a great and ecclectic mix of artists on Warp Records in the 90's. Personally I'm a big fan of early Autechre and Boards of Canada. Lemon Jelly is sometimes compared to Aphex but theres really only one Richard D. James.
