i think you can set them up to track them...  but its not very convenient...

yesterday was lame, cause i was doing a school science project with the little one..
needed to heat something up to 90 deg F..  they included a candy thermometer that started at 100 deg F.
my daughters education is partially in the hands of these people.

Ah Xina, don't be mad about the gravy - I don't do anything special, just your basic roux (I always use the fat from what ever meat I cooked - this time it was sausage and a tiny bit of real butter) add milk and stir like crazy with a wire whisk until it comes to a boil.  Then I add my salt and pepper and a few other random spices I feel like that day.  Pretty easy and really good.  But today I couldn't get it to thicken, I am not sure why, my roux was right and I didn't add too much milk.

I found once you get a good flour to fat ratio going, you can make gravy out of anything, just by adding a few different ingredients.  I saute onions in the drippings from my fried pork chops then add the flour.  Then I add either vegetable broth or chicken stock and it makes the best gravy ever, perfect over mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables with the chops.  Of course, I don't cook stuff like that very often, it isn't too healthy.  But damn is it good!

that was true at one time if its not now. my grandmother is 92 and going strong. my grandfather didn't make it past 90, but he was a booze hound with a pill problem. Okinawa was under US admin til 1972, then it officially became a part of Japan. mainland Japanese people typically think of Okinawans as 'less than.' this also pisses me off. oh yeah and 33% of Okinawa is American military.

More seaweed, miso and fish oil and less fatty roux is why your grandparents outlive Southerners by 20 years or so. We Americans are tricky, we used our military to infiltrate & conquer your ungulate-poor island paradise with our tasty meats.

not with a proper sifter, just a metal sieve. maybe that's my problemo. i can de-glaze my meat pan and make a pan gravy just fine.

in other rager news, the Mayor of Dallas gave Michael Vick a key to the city.

The fact I can't find my jacket is really pissing me off.  My house is only so big.  And it is totally gone, I know I wore it home yesterday, it was 20 degrees out, I wouldn't be running around without a coat.   dry.gif

yes this!!! and its just so sad/ironic/funny to see the Japanese borrow our food culture as we try to do the same to theirs. but for the record, its Okinawa that has the longer life expectancy over main islanders. i think it's the bitter melon too.

and btw- my grandmother has the best 90 yea old legs i have ever seen. smile.gif

I found it.  In my son's toy box.  Like buried in his toy box, I had to dig for it.  Really kid?  I swear he is plotting against me!   laugh.gif My son nonchalantly told me that he was using it as a base for his lego fortress when I asked him about it.

Had to refuse a wedding photographer gig because I realized that it would pay even less than the (already quite poorly paid) translations and photos I'm already doing if I did it by the rules (paying tax and such). What enrages me is the fact that the bride and groom were already planning to try and get a bargain on the price I offered. I'm just fed up with people wanting to pay the photogapher of the most important day in their lives the cheapest amount of money while they are ready to shell out twice that for the fucking DJ who will work twice less hours than me.
