This sucks. I guess the majority of original Kyuss members are there, but you'd think they'd be above this.

Also, it's not like the Kyuss name is hugely huge or anything. Anyone who knows who Kyuss were probably pays enough attention that they will look into new stuff these guys do regardless of what the band is called.

it sounds like a bunch of lawyerly bullshit that no one's going to be happy to have to deal with

sad price of getting bigger and having some degree of fame in a situation like this, friendships can be affected over things out of everyone's control

sad sad sad for all

To some degree I want to say Josh should just let them do their thing, but the fact that Garcia's primary reason for Kyuss Lives! was to make money has always bothered me. Should be interesting to see how this plays out. Sad to hear, considering the history those guys have.
If we don't want trouble should we not try to stop it?
Is this what you wanted it to be? Don't you think it's time to rip off the blindfold; or just keep doing what you're told?

What is he supposed to do flip burgers?

While this is sad to hear, I'd be much sadder to go into a burger king and see John Garcia there, or walk by Nick doing construction which is what he was doing prior to KL.  It's one thing to be a sellout, it's another to need to sell some tickets to maintain a decent quality of life which given the music they have given to us in the past, they should live comfortably for the rest of their lives in exchange for it, but sadly that's not how the world works.

I understand that bills need to be paid, but some things of Kyuss Lives stink. The VIP stuff, that shitty cartoon. That's selling out.
After that, the way that Scott Reeder has been treated by his band"mates" like shit. Nickfag not allowing Scott on stage. What is underneath, was posted by Scott on Fiercebook.

QUOTE
My apologies to all the nice folks I met last night who traveled from all around the country that were under the impression that I was playing last night. I thought I was playing one song, but their current bassist put the kibosh on me. I was told I should take it as a compliment, but...

"Joe, that sounds good, like when Pigmy Love Circus's bassist invited me to play the whole second half of their last gig. Ruled! But last night at dinner, I got the word that it would really bum N.O. out, turning the gig "into a weird bass competition." If that's the case, it would've been a pleasure to wipe the stage with him! It's all good. The truth sets you free..."

And... it seems that Josh and Scott tried to wait as long with going to court as possible. I hope justice will be served. And's that's with Scott and Josh.

Just read this article on nme.com and it is a sad day.

we can comment and analyse but unless you are a part of it and know all the details and goings on behind the scenes in both camps it's hard to judge which way this will go and whether it is 'fair'.

All I will say is I have enjoyed seeing the 2 Kyuss Lives shows I have been too and I am still a massive Queens/TCV/Josh Idoliser so either way this case goes unless it's settled evenly (which I doubt it will be) it will be sad.

This band is not Kyuss and it shouldn't be named Kyuss, that's it.

Pick a different name, create cool music, make your own reputation.

"I don't wanna be in the band with you anymore but I don't want you to continue the band without me."
I dunno, how many bands have continued without original members in the past? Lots of them - it used to be accepted that once you left the rest carried on if they wanted. It's just corporate bullshit -  why should someone receive money for stuff the others do without them?

I think it's the whole point that they're doing it, using all Josh's riffs, all his guitar work, so Kyuss IS basically his thing. Without his work in it, who would they be?
Shit I'd wanna sue somebody if they're using my name for themselves and not giving me credit for having my own name.

I suspect none or few of you are in bands anyways. I have no idea what the details are so I don't care. It's their thing to deal with and I hope it goes smoothly; it'd be terrible for this to get any negative press.

BUT, when you take what was something created out of fun/ love of music/ whatever and incorporate money into it, things may change for certain people. And from the outside, if all this is about copyright and the name, then at the very least Josh has a stake in this case. If you could put a copyright on your family name, you'd probably want to take part in that too, right?

It's interesting to see how people react to this and and criticize Josh for his actions. I guess this is another part where people forget that he was a big part of the band, whether you like it or not.

Seems to me he's been quite happy for them to play the old songs - I'm guessing he doesn't want them to take it forward and release new material using the Kyuss name. If he doesn't want to be part of it, why care so much that his former bandmates want to do something with it? It's not like he was the only songwriter, or even the main one.

I have no real idea, and nor do I care that much, but it seems the problem is with them wanting to use the name Kyuss. What was wrong with them continuing to play live and releasing new material under "Kyuss Lives"? That just seems more appropriate in this case.

I agree that they should stick to Kyuss Lives, it makes it both Kyuss and their own thing at the same time. Reading between the lines, I'm guessing the suit is to stop them recording under anything with Kyuss in the name.

And how exactly is it "consumer fraud" as alleged?

Guess I wont see Scott playing with Brant/John the next time they tour North of the border  sad.gif

What an unholy mess.

Maybe Scott and Josh should form their own version of the band (with Alfredo maybe?) and go on their own tour  mellow.gif

Sounds to me like "Kyuss Lives" was fine for all parties, but then Nick/John/Bruno wanted to go by the name "Kyuss" and Josh and Scott wont have any part of it.

No, I get that you have to do what you can to make money, but it's always bothered me a bit that he was so upfront about the fact that it is about the money. I'm not really happy about what either side is doing, you know? I feel like Josh has enough going for him to where he could let it go, and I've never been a big fan of the Kyuss Lives! project. But, hey, who am I to tell anyone else what to do? It's just kind of weird that this is going on because, correct me if I'm wrong, didn't Josh say somewhere that he respected what they were doing, but that it wasn't for him? Or something along those lines?
If we don't want trouble should we not try to stop it?

Sure seems to me like Nick/Brant/John tried to screw over Scott and Josh. But of course, we don't yet know (and may never know) the full story.
